French toast reminds me of the days I would get up early with Dad and he would take me out for breakfast to Mickel’s, the “fine-dining” local restaurant. Every time we went I ordered the French toast, topped with a large scoop of butter and lots of powdered sugar. My favorite breakfast food evolved when my mother-in-law started making French toast stuffed with cream cheese, which I then smothered with her homemade strawberry jam. I thought I would try my own hand at a signature French toast recipe, adding a natural sweet flavor with the fresh fruit. Maybe someday our grandchildren will talk about Grandma’s French toast that she first made in an RV in Utah. Who knows?
